In Thailand Dr. Jivaka is considered as the source and authority of Thai-Massage and as the founder of the traditional Thai-medicine (TTM). He was the physician in ordinary of king Bimbisara (540 to 490 B.C.).
Dr. Jivako was not only the physician in ordinary of king Bimbisara. He also was the personal physician of Buddha and physician of the Buddhist community of monks (Sangha).
Thai massage is directly linked to Ayurveda, which is one of the most remarkable holistic medical system known to us. Ayurveda tries to relate the human being to the macrocosm. It is therefore mostly a science of spiritual curing of the body as well as the soul.
As a matter of fact Ayurveda has become an integral part of Thai massage as well as of traditional Thai medicine (TTM). The ayurvedic knowledge did not only spread to Thailand but also through nearly all parts of Asia. It influenced Chinese medicine as well as the ancient Greek naturopathy.
The ayurvedic system distinguishes three basic forces. The first force is the Prana, the energy of life. The second forces is Jyoti, the energy of the light and radiance that accompanies and guides the power of life. The third force is the power of cohesion, Prema, allowing the development of form and their consistency.
