Abstract
Acupressure and Meridian massage are an integral component of traditional Chinese medicine. The goal is the reconstitution of the bodies energy flow through meridian massage respectively through activation of certain energy points.
Acupressure and meridian massage are an integral component of the seven step-healing concept of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).[1] While acupressure can be found in all cultures, the Chinese embedded it in a complex concept of treatment[2]
Just like acupuncture, those two methods are based on the model of energy points and energy lines, being called meridians. Probably acupuncture was developed based on the experiences with acupressure as both methods use the same points. The advantage of acupressure in comparison to acupuncture is its easy self-application and that it does not need any injections and thus never results in any bleedings or infections.[3]
The meridian massage aims particularly at reconstituting the flow of energy in the meridians. For that purpose, one must be aware that often by a lack of energy flow in one meridian also the next one following it in the Great Circle does not have sufficient energy. That is why the massage should be applied cyclic from a meridian filled with energy to one lacking it.[4]
Acupressure is also trying to remove disturbances of the energy flow by activating certain energy points.[5]
