The Berlin Zoo train station, officially named "Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten", has been a train station for long-distance lines since 1884 until the completion of the new Berlin Central Station. At times of the Berlin Wall the Berlin Zoo station served, with it's two train tracks, as the central station and was the most famous train station of Berlin.
Traffic Junction for Public Transportation
The Berlin Zoo station is located at Hardenbergplatz in Berlin Charlottenburg opposite of "Berlin Zoologischer Garten", Germany's oldest zoo. On the Hardenbergplatz the biggest bus station of Berlin can be found. Only buses for public transportation are stopping here.
The Berlin Zoo train station is, with it's connection to buses, subways (U-Bahn) and urban rails (S-Bahn) still an important traffic junction for public transportation in Berlin, which however has lost importance since the opening of the new Berlin Central Station at the former Lehrter Stadtbahnhof.
Kurfürstendamm and Europa Center
In close range of Berlin Zoo station the well known shopping street Kurfürstendamm, the Europa Center and touristic attractions like the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche can be found.
