Abstract
The teaching of Yoga is, like Ayurveda, one of the historic roots of Thai massage. The basic element in Yoga is the knowledge of the basic unity, the Advaita, which says that our real core, Atman, and the real foundation of all creation, Brahman, are actually one and the same thing.
Yoga, like Ayurveda is an important part of the Vedic knowledge. Its development is tightly interwoven with the one of Ayurveda and they can be combined to strengthen their effects.[1] Already Yoga itself contents different effective principles.[2]
It is a methodological system to learn to consciously control and regulation of motoric, sensoric, vegetative and psychic functions. In this training the conscious intervention on somatic and psychic functions is accompanied by the conscious perception of the functions themselves.[3]
In Indian thinking everything is penetrated by the highest, the universal spirit, who is named god or Paramatma, the individual spirit, Jivatma, being a part of it. Yoga teaches the ways to unite Jivatma with Paramatma and thus reach the liberation (Moksa).[4] Ramana Maharshi in this context points to the fact, that there is one, immanent reality that can be directly experienced by everybody and which at the same time is the source, the substance and the true nature of everything that exists.[5] The basic element is the knowledge of the basic unity, the Advaita, which says that our real core, Atman, and the real foundation of all creation, Brahman, are actually one and the same thing.[6]
